BORROWING POLICY

Note: Items from other libraries have different lending periods. Borrowing privileges will be suspended if $50.00 or more is owed.

RENEW MATERIALS

  • Log into My Account.

  • Click the “Items currently checked out” link (it may be what is on your screen automatically).

  • Select the materials you want to renew by checking the boxes in the RENEW column and then click the Renew Selected button.

  • If you cannot renew items, a message will appear on the screen.

  • If you are successful, a new due date will appear in the “STATUS” column. *Always check the STATUS column for information on the success or failure of your renewal.

Eligible books and other items in the library collection will now renew automatically up to three times as long as no one is waiting for them and your account is in good standing. Automatic renewals are currently not available for Inter-Library Loan items or digital items (eBooks, eAudiobooks, or eMagazines).

RESERVE MATERIALS

 

Get the popular library materials you want by placing a hold request on the item. Holds can be placed online via the catalog, by phone, or with help from a staff person.

  • By phone, call 631-653-4224 ext.101. Have your library card number ready and be able to provide information about the item (title, author, etc.). Most items in the catalog can be placed on reserve and picked up at the Suffolk County library location of your choice.

  • Online visit our Catalog and search for any item by author, title, subject or word.
    1. Select the item you wish to reserve
    2. Click on the “Request It button”
    3. Enter your BARCODE and PASSWORD
    4. Select your pickup location and click on Submit

Please Note:

  • Requests may be filled with items from other libraries and may have different lending periods. Please take note of the due dates.

  • New items, which may be on order, may not be displayed in the catalog. Call the library or stop in to speak with us if an item you are looking for is brand new. You can also request an item be purchased for the Library Collection. Click (add a link to the request form) to request a purchase.

INTER-LIBRARY LOANS

 

You may request items from Nassau County by searching the LI Link Catalog.
Items may also be borrowed from outside of Long Island. Please contact the Circulation Desk at 631-653-4224 ext. 101 to request items not found in Suffolk or Nassau Counties.

FREEZE A HOLD OR RESERVE REQUEST

Log into your library account
Check the box next to each title you wish to freeze and click the Update Holds button.

SET LIBRARY NOTIFICATIONS

 

If you have an email contact in your account, you will receive notifications for Hold pickups, Courtesy notices and Overdue notices. You can also receive SMS text message alerts to your cell phone for the same. You must ‘Opt In’ to this service.

  • Log into your account and click on Change Your Contact Information.

  • Add a 10-digit cell phone number in the Text Alert box (format: xxx-xxx-xxxx).

  • Select “Opt In” and “Update”.

  • You will receive a confirmation text message after opting in.

  • Reply YES to this confirmation.

  • Please Note: Standard message charges apply. You can opt out of the SMS Alert service at any time.

SAVE YOUR READING HISTORY

​

  • Log into your account.

  • Click on the “Reading History” link.

  • Select the “opt in” button.

​

FINES & FEES

 

The Library no longer issues daily charges for overdue items. If an item is damaged or lost, replacement fees will still apply. Twenty one (21) days after the final due date an item is considered lost and a replacement fee will be reflected on the account.

​

As a courtesy, email notices are sent before due dates to encourage the prompt return of materials. Accounts owing over $50 and past due more than 60 days may be referred to a Library materials recovery firm. Patrons with outstanding fees may be restricted from borrowing materials.

​

To pay fines and fees, please visit the staff at the Quogue Library with a check, credit or debit card.
