Your Library Card is Important
During the summer month, we ask that you please try to remember to bring your
library card to the desk with you. It takes time to look up your record in
our files if you forget, causing a line at the front desk.
Library Cards
The
Quogue Library is principally supported by the taxpayers of the Quogue School
District District. East Quogue residents are eligible to apply for cards at Quogue
under the East Quogue School District's library contract. The following people
may register with us and receive a library card:
District
patrons
- Year-round:
Individuals who are members of a tax-paying household. Proof of residency, such
as a driver's license, deed to property, property tax receipt, or a year-round
lease, is required. Property owners who are only in the district during
the summer or weekends have the same privileges as year round residents. Children
may register when they can write their names. A parent or legal guardian
of children under 17 must also sign the registration card.
- Summer Temporary
patrons: Renters who are only in the district during the summer must
provide a copy of their lease agreement or other documents stating a rental address
along with identification of their permanent address when registering for a library
card. Summer cards are for "Local Use Only." This means the cards may be
used at this Library only, nowhere else in Suffolk County.
Non-District Patrons
- The library honors cards from other Suffolk County libraries, provided
the account is in good standing. Non-district borrowers may not check out new
books, videos, books on cassette or CD's; they cannot use interlibrary loan or
reserve books.
- East Quogue patrons can get a Quogue Library card.
Cards are valid from July 1 of the current year to June 30 of the following year.
Cards must be renewed yearly to remain valid. East Quogue patrons have the same
privileges as district residents.
Renewing
Items
Items may be renewed for up to two
weeks provided there is not a waiting list for them. Items may be renewed by phone
only during weekdays, not on weekends. New fiction cannot be renewed.
Reserving
Material
Only Quogue and E. Quogue card
holders may reserve items. New release videos/DVD's cannot be reserved. Items
that are on order for the library but have not yet been received may also be reserved.
You can reserve an item over the phone weekdays only.
Interlibrary
Loan
The Quogue Library is a member of the
Suffolk Cooperative Library System and can borrow materials from other libraries
in the county, as well as from other states. Interlibrary loan requests can be
made in person anytime or over the phone on weekdays only. We can only interloan
material for Quogue and East Quogue patrons. There is a limit to how many requests

Community

is available to the public as a meeting and conference room. It can seat up to
45 people. Requests for use of the meeting room should be made to the Library
Director, Chistine A. Clifton at 653-4224. It is necessary for your group to obtain a certificate
of insurance before being granted a community room use permit.
The main
purpose of the library's community room is to serve as a venue for library sponsored
services, programs and events. Library functions and activities have priority
over all other activities. The library reserves the right to revoke a community
room use permit or to reschedule a meeting should there be a conflict with library
sponsored activities or services.
Permission to use the Library's meeting
rooms may be granted to community groups,
organizations, and individuals whose
aims are Library connected; educational; cultural;
and/or civic. Use
of the Library's meeting rooms is subject to all federal, state and local laws
and regulations as well as policies promulgated by the Library Board of Trustees.
Scheduling availability is to be determined by the Library. Preference shall
be given to Library District based organizations whose membership is primarily
comprised of Library District residents.
The rooms are not to be used for
sectarian religious instruction or as a place of
religious worship or
to proselytize. Further, the rooms may not be utilized by political
parties or representatives of political parties when the purpose of such is to
promote
a singular political agenda. In addition, the rooms are not
to be utilized for the
advancement of commercial or profit-making enterprises.
Application
to use the Library's meeting rooms must be made in writing on the form
provided
for this purpose at least one week in advance of the intended use. Exceptions
may be made due to extenuating circumstances. Forms are available in the
office of
the Library Director. No application shall be considered
officially approved until it is
signed by the Library Director or other
person designated by the Board of Trustees, and
returned to the applicant.
By executing the application, the applicant agrees to the
release of
the applicant's name and telephone number to any person requesting
information
concerning an organization's activities or program.
Hampton
Center Gallery
The Library's Hampton Center
Gallery is open whenever the library building is open. Artists wishing to exhibit
work in the gallery must make an application to the Gallery Committee; applications
are available at the front desk. The Gallery Committee or Library Director may
reject any exhibit that is not deemed appropriate for the Library.
The
Library will take reasonable care to ensure the safety and security of items displayed,
however the library does not insure items on display and assumes no responsibility
in the event of loss, theft, or damage. Exhibitors are encouraged to insure items
of value and will be required to sign a form that releases the Library from responsibility
for loss, damage or destruction. Material on display may not include prices or
purchase information. Items must be removed as scheduled by the Gallery or they
will be removed by Library staff and stored for a maximum of 30 days.
Children
in the Library
Children are eligible for
their own library cards at age 4. Children can get adult cards at age 16. Parents
may check out children's books with an adult library card.
The Library welcomes
children of all ages to use its facilities and services. Responsibility for children
using the library rests with the parent or assigned care giver, not with library
personnel. Library staff do not take the place of a parent, act as babysitter,
or assume responsibility for unsupervised children.
1. Children in kindergarten
or younger must be supervised at all times by a responsible person (defined as
an adult or mature teenager who has responsibility for the child).
2. Children
in grades 1 and 2 may be left unsupervised in the childrens area while the
parent or responsible person is in another part of the building providing that
: the child is able to behave appropriately while unsupervised, and the length
of time the child is left alone does not exceed the childs comfort level
with the situation.
3. On the recommendation of the Quogue Village Police
Department, staff will call the police to come supervise a child remaining on
the property when the staff exits at closing time.
